Introduction

High-impact teaching strategies (HITS), also referred to as high-leverage practices, are core pedagogical practices that help students understand content while also supporting their social-emotional development. These teaching practices can demonstrably impact student learning outcomes in both literacy and numeracy. Research has resulted in multiple sets of HITS, and researchers have developed multiple resources and tools to aid teachers in their use.

This mini-guide series pulls on the HITS research and resources to provide an accessible set of guides that can help implementers to support teachers as they progress in their skill in applying HITS. The series includes: an overview guide, which introduces the HITS framework; a user guide, which provides suggested steps to follow when integrating HITS into a teacher professional development program; and mini guides supporting each of the HITS domains.
