About the Math Community of Practice

The Math Community of Practice (CoP) serves as a platform where mathematics educators can share knowledge, experiences, resources, and collaborate, and learn from one another in an effort to advance primary mathematics education in low- and middle-income countries.

Webinar on Math Education: Evidence-based Instructional Strategies

RTI’s Dr. Yasmin Sitabkhan and Dr. Wendi Ralaingita provide an overview of the findings from the Numeracy at Scale study, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Francisco Mejía from El Salvador’s Ministry of Education presents key points of the ESMATE strategy, one of the programs included in the study. This first in a series of webinars is part of a global community of practice in early grade math in LMICs, which will seek to connect professionals working in math education and improve the quality of pedagogical discourse and implementation. CIES 2024 Conference : SoT Presentation on Foundational Numeracy

Brittany Meredith and Annie Savard presented “Opening access to numeracy: Public goods to support mathematics teacher professional development”. In this presentation they discussed the development of numeracy public goods as part of Science of Teaching, including a materials guidance and three teacher training modules. They described the process of developing the modules, provided an orientation on how they can be accessed and used, and presented findings from the field-tests. In this presentation they presented findings from the Numeracy at Scale study, focusing on common pedagogical strategies found across successful numeracy programs. The discussed details of how these common elements were executed differently under different program models and what these mean for teacher professional development.
