Science of Teaching (SoT) supported the improvement of foundational learning (FL) in local contexts by building on current FL policy efforts and helping to equip governments, donors, and implementers with the skills and resources needed to improve both pedagogical rigor in FL instruction and systems alignment. To do this, SoT worked through its network of global experts to provide technical assistance (TA) to strengthen capacity within sub-Saharan African and South Asian organizations and governments to embed SoT-informed practices and policies in their contexts.
To-date, TA has spanned from supporting efforts to shift instructional practice in the classroom all the way to preparing and facilitating policy reform to support the successful uptake and dissemination of FLN best-practices across an education system. Check out our interactive map below to learn more about the organizations, governments, and donors we have supported in ten countries.
This guide is designed as a practical tool for those funding, designing, and administering TA programs on foundational learning. It organizes TA delivery into three categories—pre-, during, and post-TA—and provides guiding principles for each category.
The guiding principles reflect the learnings from Science of Teaching, Engeza, and uBoraBora and were derived from monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) data from each administrator.
