Dr. Mercy Kazima (University of Malawi), Dr. Lynn Bowie (OLICO) and Norma Evans (Evans and Associates) present findings from their work on improving teacher content and pedagogical content knowledge. Dr. Kazima provides an overview of "Developing teachers’ mathematical knowledge for teaching: An example of project from Malawi"; Dr. Bowie presents on OLICO's research on "Supporting teachers with a WhatsApp API course" in South Africa; and Ms. Evans delves into "Building teachers’ content and pedagogical content knowledge through authentic problem-solving" in Ghana. This is the second in a series of webinars as a part of SoT's development of a global community of practice in early grade math in LMICs, which will seek to connect professionals working in math education and improve the quality of pedagogical discourse and implementation. RTI's Dr. Wendi Ralaingita and Dr. Yasmin Sitabkhan presented “Learning from Successful early-grade math programs: Lessons for teacher professional development”. In this presentation they presented findings from the Numeracy at Scale study, focusing on common pedagogical strategies found across successful numeracy programs. The discussed details of how these common elements were executed differently under different program models and what these mean for teacher professional development.
