Teaching and learning materials, including a teacher’s guide and textbooks, as well as supplemental learning material, are a core pillar of structured pedagogy programs. These materials must be designed to support the development of foundational reading and math skills in line with the curriculum, scope, and sequence.
National curricula, and definitions of curriculum and scope and sequence vary across countries. Our definition includes:
WHAT: The skills children are expected to know at the end of each school year.
WHEN: Guidance on pacing and how to distribute the skills throughout the school year.
HOW: Textbooks, supplemental materials, teacher’s guides, suggested instructional activities, and information on how instruction should look.
